Blessings we enjoy daily, and for the most of them, because they are so common, most men forget to pay their praise.
- Izaak Walton
Every day, something amazing is working for you without you even lifting a finger.
The most epic of them all? The sun that rises every day without fail, regardless of what happened the day before. Slap yourself if you need me to tell you what the sun is good for.
And just some things that astound me daily:
- a solid roof above my head --- every pair of hands involved in the supply chain and whoever built it without my supervision but still bothered to do a professional job, I can't thank you enough!
- a body that serves me well --- last I heard, there are people born with ill health and seemingly healthy people collapse
- the health & happiness of those I care about --- glad that they are capable of taking care of themselves!
- a sound political-economic-social environment --- I swear I didn't sit in those high-level meetings but they somehow figured things out!
- the work done by people before me --- gawd...I don't even know where to start
Someone else has gotten it sorted out at the macro level
If today, you're worrying about or troubled by personal stuff, that's because someone else has released you from worrying about the bigger stuff.
Yet, while the bigger things are functioning well on their own, we don't necessarily appreciate them enough or are even consciously aware of what a marvel they truly are.
Instead, we turn introspect (in a bad way) and use our myopic lens to focus on the lack of positive results/ affirmations/ achievements of the things that we have put efforts into and have expectations about. I am just as guilty at times.
Sometimes, we lose the ability to see things from a bigger/ higher perspective, and allow our moods to be swayed by the micro things that are not happening the way we want it. And we let things like these make our otherwise perfectly good days miserable, and our otherwise happy selves fearful and anxious.
Zoom in only when you want focus. Pan out when you need perspective.
There's so much to Life other than what we're actively pursuing. By obsessing about
something that didn't work out according to our plans, we could be rejecting something great that is happening and gifted to us.
To think that we'd overlook LIFE's generosity (stuff we receive without effort), beauty, grace and wonder for the relatively minuscule stuff...little things can ruin our days and get us down.
In the grand scheme of things, more things are working for us than not. So many wonderful things are happening around us yet we allow them to pass us by without us noticing and relishing it or participating in it.
Imagine focusing on a speck of dust while a window of beautiful scenery came right in sight but you missed it.
The little incidents and accidents of every day fill us with emotion, anxiety, annoyance, passion, as long as they are close to us, when they appear so big, so important, so serious; but as soon as they are borne down the restless stream of time they lose what significance they had;
we think no more of them and soon forget them altogether. They were big only because they were near.
- Arthur Schopenhauer
