Have Vision, Not Goals

· Higher Consciousness,Happiness,Success

Goals are so 2017. For 2018 and beyond, have a vision.

The key differences between the two being:

  • visions are more general and hence more abstract than goals
  • visions are more challenging & inspiring than goals
  • visions often involve serving others & solving problems while goals are often about personal achievements
  • visions therefore require a longer time to achieve than goals (say goodbye to instant gratifications & quick manifestations!)

Example of a vision:
"A world where everyone is contributing with their full potential; where each person uses their intrinsic genius and leadership to deliver outstanding value-added projects.” (taken from Liquid Planner).

Below are 3 reasons why visions are better than goals to help you create a meaningful, fulfilling and happy Life:

1. It is easier for you

Yup, you read it right.

It is easier for you...in the long run.

With goals, it tends to be more realistic and rather myopic. Once you have achieved it, one question naturally follows: What next?

If you always find yourself returning to the same spot every few years - asking yourself, "What next?", you know how wearisome it gets after some time. And then you ask yourself, "Is this what it is all about? Conquering one goal after another? Indefinitely?"

With vision, be it the next 5 years, 20 years or time everlasting, it will be the same.

2. It is easier for you

You read it right again.

It is easier for you...because vision offers more clarity and permanence and hence more certainty in your life than goals.

Goals lack longevity because it is an end on its own and is usually a reflection of what one currently don't have, which one would like to have, and is usually dependent on what stage of life one is in.

What one wants will keep changing and one knows it too hence there is always a sense of uncertainty lingering at the back of one's head.

Vision on the other hand, has longevity. Matter of fact, it may even outlive you!

3. It grows on you

Your vision will be something that resonates deeply with you, something that you want to fervently protect, perpetuate and/or promote.

The more effort and time that you invest into it, the more satisfaction, happiness and love that you will get from it.

Have a vision, and the goals will follow.
